Authors think that HOPEPUNK matters because it is another way to share a topic without them thinking about how controversial it can be. The genre allows for people to stand up and defend what they think is true, which is why the word “hope” is part of the word HOPEPUNK. This is also important because it shows how many people are afraid to be themselves because they don’t want to start and conflict.
