In the beginning of the book, Nick feels vulnerable and a tolerant person. He also considers himself very much a reserved person so that why many other people have a sense to confide in him. Nick wanted to move to East, New York, to learn more about bond businesses and big companies after he graduated from school. Later on, after moving to West Egg, Nick meets his second cousin and his husband, Tom. Like the rumors, it was true that Tom had a mistress. Tom takes Nick to meet her, Myrtle, the mistress. Myrtle is married to Wilson. We discover that Tom and Myrtle have their own apartment where they see each other. They take a few sips of alcohol and Myrtle starts using Tom wife's name, Daisy. He warns her to stop in front of the guest but gets violent and ends up breaking Myrtle's nose. In those year after the Great War, WWI, there was still a lot of hierarchy in all homes. The men were leaders or in charge of their own homes and them came the person they were married to. So by Tom not liking Myrtle to use his wife's name shows that he still cares or that there is still some kind of respect for being the wife. Nick runs into Jordan Baker, she is a well-known golf player. Nick runs into her because he had already met her when doing to Daisy's house and the rumors from Tom were from her. Nick gets embarrassed at the party because he speaks to a man that does not know is Gatsby. There is a man who was a former guest whom spends most of his time at Gatsby, the boarder. Later on, Nick has lunch with Gatsby and Mr. Wolfsheim and sees Tom. He tries to introduce them together but Gatsby disappears.
