HAVE TO VERSUS WANT TO VERSUS GET TO
Agreeing to complete work for each other, being told what to do for homework, and exploring what you want in your own way are all different in certain ways. When you agree to complete work for each other, you have the pressure of having it done because you agreed to do it and someone else depends on you. Being told what to do for homework can sometimes be alright but at other times just a hassle because its like, "okay guys, do this and bring it back tomorrow." What if at the moment you understand the assignment, but later on you don't remember how to do it? Being able to explore what you want in your own way is like having freedom while being kept in check to make sure you are doing it.

GATSBY PROMPTS FURTHER THINKING
Some ideas that we have read that I think are worth writing about, are how Daisy acts when Gatsby tells Tom that she is going to leave him, to go with Gatsby. Daisy seems to hesitate and is not really sure if she wants to leave Tom or not because much time has passed since her and Gatsby have seen each other and she isn't sure if she still has feelings for him. Also, Nick tells us how he reads a book about financing in hopes of making a fortune in the future.

WHAT GATSBY SAYS TO ME
I think that the message of this book so far is to always let your true feelings be shown. Don't hide/deny them from the world. Daisy, hid her true feelings for Gatsby, and she didn't tell Tom which is why I think everything is complicated for everyone now. Also, wealth isn't everything. You can be wealthy, but not happy.

Gatsby chapter 7 notes
- Gatsby hides from people that ask about his real name
- Daisy invited Nick Jordan, and Gatsby to lunch
- Daisy flings herself onto Gatsby when Tom went out to get drinks
- Gatsby dismissed most of his servants and hired new ones
- he didn't want people that gossiped
- Tom is getting really really suspicious about Gatsby and Daisy
- "her voice was full of money"
- Daisy decides to go with Gatsby instead of Tom
- Tom is getting an idea of what is going on with Daisy and Gatsby
- Daisy's daughter is introduced
- Daisy shows up to be told what to do, but blames it on everybody else
Guiding Questions answers:
1) Gatsby stops having parties because he realized that Daisy didn't like the parties and she wasn't enjoying herself.
2) Gatsby fires his staff because he doesn't like how they spread rumors and don't mind their business. He replaces them with new people that won't care about his life or what he does. Their personalities reflect on Wolfsheim because they like to be unbothered.
3) Daisy's reaction to her daughter was kind but she also wanted to point out how much her daughter looks like her and not a lot like her father. Gatsby on the other hand, doesn't really show an expression and has a blank stare. He was perhaps in shock about Daisy having a daughter but only he would know.
4) The outing was quite something. Daisy teases both men while she is practically telling Gatsby her feelings for him in front of her husband Tom.
5)On the way back to long Island, Gatsby tells Nick that Myrtle is dead and that Daisy killed her but he is going to take the blame.
6)At the end of the chapter, Tom and Daisy are talking with no emotion but they were talking really close that Gatsby had no idea what is was about and he was standing close to "protect" Daisy. Daisy character is of an honest person that admits that she loves two guys and that at some point she loved Tom.

- from Cody he inherited money

- He wants to fix what he couldn't do in the past and please Daisy
- he hasn't learn to move forward
- "you can't repeat the past," Gatsby idealistically answers "Why of course you can"
Reflection :
Tom is becoming quite suspicious about how Daisy and Gatsby know each other. Daisy doesn't seem to enjoy the party or Gatsby's company as much. After the party ended, Gatsby tells Nick that he is sure that Daisy didn't enjoy the party because she seemed off the whole time.

NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON GATSBY CHAPTER 5
- nick is playing the role of cupid for Gatsby and Daisy
- he invites her over so that they can see each other
- Gatsby and Daisy had not seen each other in five years
- Gatsby tells Daisy that he lives across from her house
- Gatsby invites Daisy and Nick over to his house afterward
- rain makes Gatsby nervous
Reflections:
Towards the end of the chapter, Nick describes Gatsby's face as a way that he is probably not happy with the affair. He now isn't sure is he is in love with Daisy or he just likes the idea of her. The time that he had her on his mind caused for him to make and image of her of what he wants her to be and not what she really is.
HOW YOU KNOW WHAT I KNOW
I can show what I know by being able to summarize and explain what has happened so far in the book. I can answer questions and help other understand the main idea of the chapter or help them catch up.

TESTING UNDERSTANDING FROM THE OTHER SIDE
Choosing questions wasn't to hard since it was more about whether you can explain your answer. I chose simple to very easy questions so that the other person could be able to answer them, but also I was able to see if they were able to add evidence and explain their answer.

NICK'S CARDINAL VIRTUE
I just finished reading chapter 3 and here is what I understand so far:
- According to one of the young women that was at one of Gatsby's previous parties, when she accidentally ripped her dress, he sent her an expensive one to make up for her ripped one. I think Gatsby is very mysterious because he has been through a lot in life that he just likes to keep to himself.
- Nick calls the man in the library Owl Eyes because of his big glasses.
- Nick imagine Gatsby as someone serious and mysterious because of all the rumors he heard.
- Nick finds out that Jordan is incurably honest. He enjoys her company and he sometimes thinks that he is in love with her.
- Gatsby and Nick plan to get lunch together the next day.
- Nicks Cardinal Virtue is, "I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known." I think he mentions this at this point in the book because he has heard a lot of rumors and seen people lie to each other and he is just surprised when he meets some one that is honest.
MY MOM ON MY BIG QUESTION
To clarify, MOM stands for Minute Of Mindfulness, not well mom :)
So this didn't really come into my mind but it does go with my big question. I was at the store on the weekend, Saturday to be exact, and I was waiting in the checkout line to pay when I happened to hear something that caught my attention. The lady behind me was on the phone and she was talking about how she took nature and going outside for granted. I of course thought, "OMG THAT GOES WITH MY BIG QUESTION!!!" This lady was sick for days, she said through the phone, and in that time she realized how much she missed being able to go outside and just BE outside with fresh air and feeling the sun on your skin. This really made me think because not only do humans take for granted the earth, BUT also just going OUT of your house to feel the sun on your skin, many don't even cherish that.
Now it's a party ? Gatsby chapter 3
- Gatsby is known for having big parties at his house
- know one seems to know who Gatsby really is or anything about his family or wealth
- nick learns that Gatsby was a German spy during the war
- Jordan is a dishonest person
I get by with a little help from my friends
- Jordan Baker symbolic start of something big when Gatsby meets her friendship wise
- music doesn't reflect but just describes your personality
- kids theme songs from then reminds us of our childhood
- running for queen, princess, prince, king at school has turned into popularity contest
- parents not care about what their kids watch online
- abortion depends on what the women wants to do with their body

MY UN/FINISHED SYMPHONY
A goal that I have is to learn to talk to people that I barley know. I can get pretty shy around new people and I want to change that.

BQGSD
Three things I will do next regarding my big question are to start to do some research online to see if I find anything, which I really hope I do. Also I will continue to pay attention to how people act in school and outside of school regarding trash, or other things that aren't supposed to be on the floor.
And, last but not least I will ask a few people about their opinion on my big question and what they believe is right.

WHATS IN MY BIG QUESTION FOR ME
Something that is in my big question for me is that I will finally get an answer to something that has been on my mind for a few years. I have always seen people not care about what they have because they can always "get a new one." But, there is only ONE earth, therefore we can't get a new one that easily. So many humans don't realize that we are slowly killing the earth and when its going to be too late, they will finally realize that we had time to save the planet but because they didn't care, here we are, with a dying/dead planet earth.
MEET NICK
Nick is a person that keeps to himself and believes that the world should be moral and in a uniform state forever. He lives in East Egg and something that he is always thinking of is what his father told which was "When you ever feel like criticizing anyone, just remember that all the people in this world haven't had the advantages that you've had." - Nick's Father
